As the Dicastery for the Docrine of the Faith announces its approval for devotion linked to Medjugorje, Mons. Armando Matteo, the Dicastery’s Secretary, reviews the timeline of various commissions and bishops’ statements regarding the alleged apparitions at the Shrine.
The Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith presents the document “The Queen of Peace” on the spiritual experience in the Bosnian town of Medjugorje, saying Pope Francis’ approval is based on the pastoral reality and not evaluations about its supernatural nature.
At a conference dedicated to the deepening of the new “Norms of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith for proceeding in the discernment of alleged supernatural phenomena”, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández clarified some parts of the document “The Queen of Peace” about the spiritual experience in the Herzegovinian Marian shrine, writes Vatican News.

On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 4 pm, an hour-long press conference of the Special Envoy of the Holy See for Medjugorje, Dr. Henryk Hoser, was held in the Hall of St. John Paul II. Even though there were about fifty journalists registered, the interest for this event was much greater. The conference was translated into the Croatian, English, Italian, German and French languages, and those were the official languages spoken during the conference, while a translation was also given in the Polish, Spanish and Slovakian languages.

In the early 1980s, six children in the Yugoslavian town of Medjugorje reported seeing visions of the Virgin Mary. Since that time, millions of people have made the pilgrimage to Medjugorje and countless others still follow messages attributed to the Virgin Mary that are revealed by the original seers.
This summer, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) completed its investigation of the apparitions at Medjugorje and submitted its findings to Pope Francis. While rumors have long swirled that the report on Medjugorje will be negative, no one — to my knowledge — has gone on record confirming a negative judgment.
